Friday Apr 23, 2021
On today’s episode, Know Your Role(s) welcomes writer, performer, comedian, and illustrator responsible for this week's digital rebranding Amanda Xeller to the pod! On tap in this week’s Bar Talk are Joel Embiid's long shot in Wednesday's Phoenix Suns game, Steph Curry being "one of the best players in basketball," and George and Dave’s thoughts on the “Mare of Easttown” premier and the QAnon documentary, “Q: Into the Storm.” Amanda discusses her work with the Magnet Theater’s Moxie Sketch Lab, why weird characters are the best, and her potato film rating system, while bonding with George over WWE fandom. In this week’s game, Amanda and the guys compare Nicolas Cage roles to baked goods, complete with impressions, PB&J and bacon donuts, and Italian croissants so delicious they’re “Gone in 60 Seconds.” George gets excited about his rare Saturday off and the release of Early Riser’s “Vocations.” Dave draws our attention to Jayil Pak’s short film “Georgia” and touches on anti-racist action items, supporting mutual aid organizations, and voting in NYC’s June primary. Producer Marybess discusses the importance of sustainable shopping, citing Sam Corbin’s article “The Personal, Political, and Environmental Case for Buying All Your Clothes Secondhand.”
Resources: Stream “Mare of Easttown” and “Q: Into the Storm” on HBOMax. Find Early Riser’s “Vocations” on Bandcamp & Apple Music. Jayil Pak’s “Georgia” is showing now at the Atlanta Film Festival.
