Friday Oct 29, 2021
On today’s episode, Know Your Role(s) welcomes rock journalist, radio producer, and “Louder Than Hell” co-author Katherine Turman to the pod! On tap in today’s Bar Talk are 2021’s “Dune,” War on Drugs’ new album “I Don’t Live Here Anymore,” and Chuck Klosterman’s upcoming book “The Nineties.” Katherine takes the gang on a journey through her rock education growing up in the LA music scene, interviewing artists from Axl Rose to Kurt Cobain to David Gilmour, and what defines the quintessential metal record. This episode’s game gets loud as Katherine and the fellas compare rock bands to Halloween costumes from The Doors’ Dracula to Motorhead’s Jason Voorhees to the Kinks’ Ghostbusters. In today’s Last Call, George gets excited for a Bad Religion concert this weekend and the final seasons of “Insecure” and “Succession,” while Dave looks forward to Edgar Wright’s “Last Night in Soho,” and the return of Padma Lakshmi’s “Taste the Nation” on Hulu.
