On today’s episode, Know Your Role(s) welcomes social justice activist, BLM organizer, and South Carolina House of Representatives District 25 candidate Derrick Quarles to the pod! On tap in this week’s Bar Talk are the return of live sporting events, Andrew Cuomo’s sudden ban on to-go alcoholic drinks in NYC, and LGBTQ+ representation in the new MCU series “Loki” and beyond. DQ talks about his road to the South Carolina House of Representatives, tackling everything from gentrification to the juvenile justice system to police accountability, as well as celebrating good news for social justice activists and the cities and people getting it right. This week’s game taps into DQ’s southern roots as the fellas compare Southern Rap Songs to Soul Food, where all agree we “Sho Nuff” need gumbo and “Errbody” loves fried chicken! George looks forward to his first concert since lockdown at C’mon Everybody, and Dave gets excited for the July 2nd release of Questlove’s “Summer of Soul.” Producer Mary Bess calls attention to Corporate Accountability Action’s efforts to hold large corporations accountable for the dollars they give to anti-LGBTQ legislation and the power consumers hold.
